February is American Heart Month!

Happy February 1st! February is American Heart Month

Did you know...

According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the number one killer of women, so we need to do everything we can to protect ourselves. One in three deaths is caused by heart attack or stroke, amounting to about 800,000 fatalities each year.

Controlling your blood pressure and cholestoral is key to a healthy heart. There are many other ways in which you can make healthy choices and prevent heart disease, some include:

  • Eating Healthy Foods
  • Exercising Regularly
  • Not Smoking
  • Eat Less Red Meat
  • Reduce Your Sodium Intake

Eat Mindfully

Eat mostly fruits and vegetables, whole grain and high-fiber foods, and fish at least twice a week. Keep tabs on your salt intake and limit saturated fat intake to less than 10 percent of calories.

Listen to Your Doctor

High blood pressure contributes to many heart attacks, so pay attention to this number when you visit your doctor and follow any recommendations to lower it if you're at risk.

Get Moving

Dedicate at least 30 minutes on most days to moderate exercise to improve your all around health, including your blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
